Vancouver Rundown Thursday October 24, 2024
Summary
ICBC is now dealing with 266 claims relating to damage from the weekend rainstorms. In some cases, cars floated away due to flooding. Many of the vehicles suffered repairable electrical damage - others are write-offs. ICBC has warned all drivers with partially submerged vehicles to not start the ignition until all the water is gone.
Other news…
RCMP have shot a man dead in Penticton. The force says it happened after many 911 calls were made about a man waving a knife and acting erratically on a city street. A so-called ‘interaction’ occurred between and officer and the man before shots were fired. The IIO is looking into the circumstances as per protocol.
Vancouver is going to pull the plug on the city’s only sanctioned homeless encampment. The Vancouver Park Board has set Nov. 7 as the date when CRAB Park has to be cleared of tents. Those with the City say there is no reason for the people to remain as they’ve all been offered reasonable housing alternatives.
It appears Vancouver has its own Taylor Swift grey market micro-economy. Daily Hive reports there’s a surge of people going on social media to offer short-term rentals for Swift’s December concert dates. Some posted prices are as high as $700 a night. The City of Vancouver can issue fines of up to $5000 for those would-be hosts.
A mix of sun, clouds and showers on Thursday. Sunny with cloudy periods for Friday and rain for the weekend. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
