Summary
One man is dead, another has had his hand cut-off in unprovoked stranger attacks in Downtown Vancouver. A 34-year-old man from White Rock has been arrested in the two attacks that happened Wednesday morning. Vancouver Police say the suspect has a history of mental illness and has had more than 60 interactions with officers.

An 85-year-old Abbotsford man has been charged with intentionally driving into two teens. The incident happened back on Valentines Day and may have followed a case of ‘Nicky Nicky Nine Doors.’ Michael Brian Gerty is charged with a single count of dangerous driving and three counts of assault with a weapon. The two teens were treated in hospital after being struck near Clearbrook and Maclure Roads in Abbotsford.
Peace River South MLA Mike Bernier will not be joining his former BC United colleagues in running as a BC Conservative candidate. Instead, Bernier has announced he will run as an independent in the fall election. He says unless the Conservatives moderate their views, they will struggle with resonating with most British Columbians.
One of Vancouver’s most recognizable totem poles has been moved from Stanley Park to UBC’s Museum of Anthropology. The six-metre-tall Kakaso'las totem pole has been on loan since 1985 in a deal that’s now expired. It was carved by Alert Bay born artist Ellen Neel in 1955.
