Vancouver Rundown Tuesday February 20, 2024
Summary
Even though Vancouver Coastal Health confirms there will not be a stand alone supervised drug consumption site in Richmond, hundreds gathered Monday to show their displeasure with the mere suggestion. Many marched to blast the process at City Hall which allowed Richmond to suddenly hold a couple nights of hearings on the idea. Richmond has agreed to study the issue and come up with possible suggestions for a ‘safe’ consumption site.
Other news…
Four young women were in an Uber involved in a deadly crash that closed Highway One in Burnaby early Sunday morning. RCMP say an Uber driver pulled over at the Sprott Street exit to help one of the passengers when the car was hit from behind. One passenger died at the scene. Two others were rushed to hospital in critical condition while a fourth person has been treated and released. There are suggestions the women were returning from a birthday celebration when the crash happened.
Those living in the six units of a multiplex in Chilliwack have been displaced from their homes after a fire early Monday morning. Firefighters believe the blaze started in a carport and quickly spread. There were no notable injuries but a cat was reported missing.
Final preparations are underway for the Madonna concert at Rogers Arena on Wednesday night. Vancouver’s date for the Celebration Tour was pushed back in July when the material girl became ill. Some tickets for the show were still available on Monday.
Expect more showers for Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday should be mostly sunny. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
