Many commuters who rely on Uber or Lyft noticed a jump in prices during the Monday morning commute - a rideshare price surge linked to the strike action by Metro Vancouver transit workers. In a statement received by Vancouver Rundown, Uber says it’s capped that surge:
In response to the transit strike, Uber has capped surge pricing and is offering incentives to encourage more drivers to get on the road. During the morning commute, there were 70% more drivers online than last week.
All bus and SeaBus service was suspended Monday morning. SkyTrain service is considered at risk of being suspended. CUPE 4500 leaders say management has not yet responded to the latest union offer.
Breaking news: At least three people have died and up to four others are in critical condition after a helicopter crashed north of Terrace Monday afternoon. The aircraft operated by Northern Escape Heli-Skiing went down at around 4:00 p.m. Search and Rescue members from Terrace along with helicopters from CFB Comox were tasked Monday to help bring the injured to safety.

A man has died as a result of his injuries in a Monday morning apartment fire in the Newton area of Surrey. All others made it out of the building okay. The fire started shortly after 3:00 a.m. in a low-rise at 71A Ave and 134 Street. There’s no word yet on the cause.
Six years in prison for human trafficking - that’s the sentence for a B.C. thug who lured a 15-year-old Indigenous girl into prostitution. CTV reports Meaz Nour-Eldin, 26, pleaded guilty to a single count of trafficking a minor. The girl was given drugs and booze. She was also sexually and physically assaulted. Nour-Eldin has a lengthy criminal history of drug dealing and pimping.
Note: Famed Canadian-born director Norm Jewison has died at the age of 97. Jewison was as noted for his award winning films including Fidler on the Roof and Moonstruck as he was for taking on controversial social issues. His 1967 film In the Heat of the Night picked up five Oscars and set the gold standard for tackling racism in the late 1960s.
