Vancouver Rundown Tuesday July 23, 2024
Summary
Williams Lake has been saved from a wildfire that came close to the Cariboo city. The BC Wildfire Service says that fire is now in the mop-up stage - even though it burned right next to the downtown area. The lake itself was still closed on Monday to allow aircraft to safely scoop up water. Close to 340 fires are burning in the province right now - some were sparked by lightning over the weekend.
Other news…
A man is recovering from smoke inhalation and two homes have been badly damaged following a Monday afternoon fire in Port Coquitlam. A firefighter was also hurt by some falling debris as flames spread through two homes on Rindall Avenue. There’s no early word on the cause.
Homicide investigators in Maple Ridge are trying to figure out the backstory of a woman who died after being found bleeding near 232 Street and 132 Avenue Sunday afternoon. Fire crews and paramedics were not able to revive her when they arrived at around 2:30 p.m. RCMP don’t think there’s any remaining risk to the public.
Destination unknown. However, we do know that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be heading to B.C. with his family for a summer vacation. Trudeau and his family will be in B.C. this Sunday and plan to stay on vacation until August 1. They’ll be flying on a government aircraft as per protocol and will reimburse the taxpayer for the expense.
Tuesday and Wednesday will have a chance of drizzle and then it’s back to pure sunshine by Thursday. Highs will be in the low 20s. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
