Summary
Despite heavy rain around much of the province, conditions remain dry and the forest fire season will continue to be a difficult one. Montana-based pilots, flying contracted Super Scoopers, have been assisting ground crews in trying to contain the large Ross Moore Lake Wildfire in the Thompson-Nicola Region. An evacuation order still covers more than 300 properties but the growth of the fire, which is now between 1,800 and 2,000 hectares, has slowed a bit. Still, smoke can be clearly seen from Kamloops.
Rain is forecast for northern parts of the province for most of this week. That’s great news for those fighting the massive wildfires in the northeastern corner. However, close to 500 fires are burning right now with many of them starting over the weekend. Wind remains the main concern for those on the front lines north of Cranbrook where the St. Mary’s River Wildfire continues to keep some residents and animals from their homes.
