The federal government’s transportation committee is calling out the Eby government and demanding to know why the province has awarded a Chinese Communist Party owned, overseas shipyard the BC Ferries contract thanks to a $1B federal loan. The House of Commons committee has voted to investigate a deal which includes major financing from a federal Crown owned lender. The BC NDP government has been widely criticized for choosing China over any North American shipbuilder for the new ferries.

A cruise ship continues to be stuck in Vancouver after suffering mechanical problems. The Royal Caribbean Serenade of the Seas set sail from Vancouver for Alaska Sunday but only made it as far as Bowen Island. It needed to be tug-escorted back to Canada Place. The passengers have not been allowed to disembark due to customs protocols. It’s expected the cruise ship will sail with a modified seven day itinerary.
A driver is okay after smashing her BMW into a sports medicine store in Deep Cove’s Dollarton Village shopping centre. It apparently happened when a woman in her 50s or 60s hit the wrong pedal Monday afternoon. The woman was ‘shaken up’ - no one else was hurt.
A man’s been rushed to hospital after a Monday afternoon shooting in a busy area of Langley. Shots were fired near Meadow Edge Park at 200 Street and Willoughby Way at around 5:30. There’s no word on whether the shooting of the 48-year-old was targeted.
