Other news…
The troubled mayor of Harrison Hot Springs has now called it quits. Ed Wood thanked the corporate officer and chief financial officer for their integrity in his resignation notice on the village website. Wood also thanked the public, saying it’s been an honour to be their mayor. Over the past couple years, the mayor and members of council have been involved in a very ugly and public battle that included Wood trying to dissolve council in March.
It’s a tip of the hat to Vancouver’s technology and innovation space. Vancouver has made the 2024 Global Startup: Ecosystem Report’s list of top tech ecosystems in the world. Vancouver ranks 34th in the world and 14th in North America. Toronto-Waterloo is 18th and Montreal just barely made the list at 40th. Vancouver ranks high for cheap skilled labour and a strong STEM field.
Police in the South Okanagan have now confirmed two people were killed in a crash at a private raceway in Oliver. The two were taking part in a private event at a motorsports park last week when a driver lost control. Area 27 bills itself as an exclusive membership based racecourse for gearheads.
Clouds and showers for Tuesday. It’s back to sunshine for Wednesday and Thursday but highs are not expected to crack the 20C mark. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
