Vancouver Rundown Tuesday June 17, 2025
Summary
President Donald Trump has left the G7 Summit in Alberta as top U-S military commanders and advisors gather in the war room to consider next steps in the escalating Israel-Iran attacks. The two countries are exchanging missile fire on populated centres - at least two dozen civilians have been killed in Israel, 224 in Iran. People in both countries have been warned to leave if possible.
Other news…
The U.S. has delayed the construction of two updated border crossings in the Fraser Valley. That comes as the Trump administration fires project managers. The Aldergrove-Lynden crossing is now at least six months behind schedule and won’t be ready until March of 2029. Upgrades to the Huntingdon-Sumas crossing won’t be finished until at least 2030.
The body of a 29-year-old man has now been recovered from a lake in Cypress Provincial Park. The Burnaby man slipped below the surface on Sunday - an initial search failed to find him. The man’s family has been notified.
Vancouver real estate promoter Bob Rennie has donated $23M worth of art to the National Gallery of Canada. The more than 60 pieces include works from Vancouver artist Rodney Graham. Rennie, who has already donated close to 260 other pieces, says he’s 69 and his kids don’t have the ability to managed the collection. He says the art deserves a well-funded gallery for conservation, preservation and lending.
A mix of sun and cloud on Tuesday with gusty winds at times. Clouds and showers Wednesday. Back to sunshine for Thursday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
