Vancouver Rundown Tuesday March 18, 2025
Summary
A man’s been released from custody even though RCMP say a Langley nurse was attacked by a suspect with a sharp-edged weapon. The Mounties say they were called to Langley Memorial Hospital just after midnight on March 8 after the nurse was assaulted. She’s okay. The BC Nurses Union says it happened after the nurse tried to grab a knife from a patient. A 37-year-old from Surrey is expected to appear in court at a later date.
Other news…
That’s not a drive-thru! Cleanup is underway after an SUV went through the front door of a TD Bank on Austin Avenue in Coquitlam Monday afternoon. The front door of the bank and the SUV were heavily damaged. There’s no word on any significant injuries.
An arsonist has torched two Tesla charging stations on Vancouver Island. RCMP confirm the two were part of a bank of eight chargers at Nanaimo’s Woodgrove Centre. The arsons come as anger grows over Tesla owner Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s anti-Canadian comments as well as the tariffs on Canadian exports and controversial executive orders in the U.S.
Get ready to pay higher BC Hydro bills. As of April 1, Hydro customers will be paying an extra 3.75 per cent for each of the next two years. That’s well above the rate of inflation. BC Hydro says the increase is due to inflation, U.S. tariffs and the cost of the Site C Dam - however, the utility fails to fully explain how those contribute to the higher prices.
A mix of sun and cloud for Tuesday. Clouds and possible showers Wednesday. Showers Thursday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
