Summary
Breaking news…Canada and the United States are now engaged in a full-blown trade war. Donald Trump’s 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian imports are now in effect. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada is responding with its own tariffs on billions of dollars worth of American goods. Trump had previously promised to increase his tariffs if Canada retaliated. Markets initially dropped on Monday in advance of the levies coming into effect at midnight.

The Surrey School Board is poised to cut its elementary school band programs due to a $16M budget shortfall. The Board blames the provincial government, saying funding has failed to keep up with growth and inflation. Some parents point out the band programs contribute to student mental health, friendships and engagement. The parents have started a change.org petition in hopes of keeping the band programs alive.
The Mounties now confirm a body has been found in the ruins of a Langley home that exploded late Friday morning. Two others were critically injured and five neighbouring homes were badly damaged. Investigators say the explosion and massive fire is consistent with a blast caused by an illicit drug lab.
A section of the Stanley Park Seawall, closed for three weeks, has now reopened. Crews have repaired the unstable slope near Prospect Point. Bad weather, including freeze-thaw conditions, contributed to several slides along the seawall.
