Summary
The B.C. NDP government is dismissing the Trump administration’s new claims that fentanyl continues to cross into the U.S. at Lower Mainland border crossings. Tariff Committee Chair Ravi Kahlon says that claim is nothing more than misinformation and a distraction aimed at keeping tariffs on Canadian exports. FBI Director Kash Patel told Fox News on Sunday those in Canada have partnered with criminals linked to the Chinese Communist Party, Russia and Iran to bring fentanyl into the U.S. from Vancouver.
Other news…
A public outcry has forced the Eby government to cut its contract with a former Ontario attorney-general. Michael Bryant had been tapped to spend six months examining better ways to provide services on the Downtown Eastside. Much of the criticism centred on Bryant’s qualifications and the government’s decision to hide the appointment from the public. Premier David Eby says the appointment had become a distraction.
A Fraser Valley man is recovering from serious injuries after being mauled by a couple dogs on Hemlock Valley Road, west of Agassiz. David Peter says two pitbulls charged him as he was walking. He says the dogs’ owner drove away, leaving him to bleed at the side of the road. Peter says he got close to 50 stitches in his left arm.
A man’s been arrested in Richmond for apparently impersonating a police officer. RCMP say the arrest happened after a victim reported being pulled over by the driver of a Mustang, equipped with flashing red and blue lights. The suspect was wearing a badge and asked to see the victim’s driver’s license. Now the real police are trying to see if any other people had run-ins with the fake cop.
Mostly cloudy with a few showers on Wednesday, windy at times. Sunny Thursday. Clouds and possible showers on Friday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
