Over a thousand people in the UBC community have now put their names on a petition in support of anti-Israeli protesters camped out on university property. The so-called ‘open letter’ calls on UBC leaders to cut ties to three Israeli universities which it claims are complicit in the country’s violation of international laws. The action comes as Israeli forces begin a new round of targeted strikes against Hamas in Rafah.
More than 100 container truck drivers staged a rolling protest through the streets of Metro Vancouver on Sunday, blasting licensing changes they say will hurt smaller companies moving goods through the Port of Vancouver. The Office of the B.C. Container Truck Commissioner is changing the rules which could restrict who gets to operate at the ports. The Commissioner says the goal is to make sure there is stability in the industry.
Some are holding out hope that people may be able to witness the northern lights in the sky over Metro Vancouver this week. The weather is expected to cooperate as a geomagnetic storm warning continues. The display may be low on the horizon Tuesday evening.
Tuesday is expected to be a transition day with rain in the morning and clearing by the afternoon. By Wednesday, it’s the start of several days of sunshine with highs over 20C by the end of the week. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
