We’ll see you in court! That’s the feeling behind Mayor Brenda Locke’s latest attack on the provincial government’s hopes of transitioning Surrey from the RCMP to a city force. Locke has announced plans to file another court action…this one aimed at challenging the constitutionality of Minister Mike Farnworth’s move to shuffle aside the SPS Police Board. Locke still contends the SPS would require a double digit tax hike for Surrey homeowners.
Local news…
WestJet is being sued by a Vancouver-based man who accuses the airline and two flight attendants of defaming him. Business In Vancouver reports Ryan Robinson contends they were not truthful in telling authorities he refused to wear a mask and became unruly on a flight between Vancouver and Winnipeg during the height of the COVID pandemic. Robinson is seeking general damages for defamation, punitive damages and costs. At this point, the claim has not been proven in court.
Three people have been badly injured after a car slammed into a tree at UBC early Monday morning. Two of the men had to be pulled from the car before it went up in flames. Booze and high speeds are thought to be factors in the crash.
Come get your cocaine! That’s the word from Mission RCMP after half-a-kilo was found in a public washroom early Monday morning. In a cheeky tweet, the Mounties ask the rightful owners to bring proper evidence of ownership.
While it might be cloudy with a few showers Tuesday, the clearing starts on Wednesday and we can expect sunshine toward the end of the week. That could be good news for those hoping to spot the northern lights! Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
