Vancouver Rundown Tuesday November 12, 2024
Summary
Those living in the federal riding of Cloverdale-Langley will go to the polls on Dec. 16. That byelection date was announced over the weekend, squaring a vacancy left by Liberal MP John Aldag’s failed attempt to win a seat as an NDP MLA. Indigenous communications specialist and law school graduate Madison Fleischer will run for the Liberals while former MP Tamara Jansen expects to turn back the seat for the Conservatives once again.
Other news…
Vancouver could be a step closer to giving more naming rights and corporate sponsorships. City council will discuss the move which would increase non-tax revenue to support facilities, programs and services. Under the proposal, the City Manager could approve deals up to $3M.
The U.S. will be expanding its Pacific Highway border crossing next year. The expansion to the truck crossing in Blaine is expected to cost about US$34M. The upgrade is also expected to reduce wait times for the close to 3 million passenger vehicles that cross there each year.
What’s with those strange but beautiful cloud formations? That’s what many people continue to ask after folks around Vancouver shared photos of the extremely rare asperitas clouds that appeared on Friday. At least one person described the formations as looking like something from a Group of Seven painter. Little is known about how the clouds are formed making forecasting of the asperitas clouds very difficult.
A mix of sun, clouds and showers for Tuesday…windy at times. Showers on Wednesday. Sun and cloud for Thursday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
