Summary
Western Canada’s tallest skyscraper will be built in Burnaby. City Council has given developer Pinnacle International the green light to build a cluster of towers next to the Lougheed Town Centre SkyTrain Station. One of those will be an 850-foot, 80 storey tower…making it the tallest building west of Toronto. The cluster of five towers will include a mix of business and residential units on a six acre site that used to have a Sears outlet store.

A 36-year-old woman has now been charged with murder after a victim of a stabbing in Surrey’s Whalley neighbourhood died of her injuries. Charges against Jennifer Kipp have been upgraded from aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. The victim died in hospital five days after being stabbed near 108 Avenue and King George Boulevard last month.
A man in his 70s has been arrested after his van was parked outside Vancouver City Hall and set on fire. Crews quickly put out the flames Sunday afternoon but found close to 100 litres of unburned fuel inside the vehicle. There’s absolutely no word on the motive.
Mayor Ken Sim says Vancouver will always stand with the Jewish community. His comments on Monday came as the world marked the one year anniversary of the deadly Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israeli civilians. Sim says that while Vancouver has seen a rise in hateful actions directed toward the Jewish community, the city prides itself on diversity, respect and inclusion. Sim says there is no place for anti-Semitism or any form of hate in Vancouver.
