Vancouver Rundown Tuesday September 3, 2024
Summary
This past Labour Day long weekend included closures at five B.C. emergency rooms in the Interior. Hospitals in Lillooet, Merritt, 100 Mile House, Williams Lake and even Kamloops could not adequately staff their ERs. Geographically, the closures left a huge swath of the province without ER coverage. The Ministry of Health has always maintained ERs are only closed as a last resort.
Other news…
Three lost hikers have been found by Search and Rescue volunteers. All were located in the steep backcountry of Mount Seymour after spending Sunday night…lost. At least one private helicopter joined the search effort.
That big plume of black smoke coming from the Port Mann Bridge on Sunday morning was a car fire. It’s not clear what started the blaze but no injuries were reported. Fire crews from both Surrey and Coquitlam managed to quickly douse the flames.
Note to those going inclined to go twice the speed limit: Don’t do it in front of a police station. Vancouver Police busted the driver of a BMW after the car was clocked going 99 km/h in a 50 zone. The car is impounded for seven days - the driver’s ticket is worth $368. ICBC consequences are unknown.
Clearing on Tuesday, highs about 21C. Then it gets sunny and warm again for Wednesday through Friday…inland highs in the upper 20s. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
