Summary
Premier David Eby says too many people in B.C. are still facing unfair rent hikes and evictions under false pretenses. So, his government is taking steps it thinks will protect tenants from bad-faith evictions. New rules are designed to eliminate rent hikes when a child is added to the household. Landlord-tenant disputes will also be resolved faster under proposed changes to the Residential Tenancy Act.

Daycares will soon be banned from charging money to put children on waitlists. That ban will apply to 95 per cent of daycares that get get provincial support. The government claims to have created more than 15,000 $10 a day daycare spots in B.C.
There’s a new round of head scratching over the City of Surrey’s plan to extend 72 Avenue by paving new road through prime farmland between 152 Street and Highway 15. Some farmers are worried the $138 million extension could cause irrigation problems. The city is trying to find alternatives to the congestion on east-west connectors including Highway 10 and 64 Avenue.
Shame and blame! That’s the approach of DriveBC after a photographer decided to stop his car in Stanley Park to take pictures of the cherry blossoms. His actions were posted to X along with a stern piece of advice from DriveBC. All drivers are warned to be careful of where they stop when taking photos.
