Vancouver Rundown Wednesday February 14, 2024
Summary
Vancouver Coastal Health claims you can blame climate change for negative health impacts. In its report, the health authority says people living around Vancouver can expect more extreme heat, flooding and drought. The report goes back to that heat dome in 2021, noting 145 people in Coastal Health died. This report makes 17 recommendations. Many people blamed the health authority for failing to adequately alert people during the heat emergency while also noting there was a lack of air conditioners at many long term care facilities.
Other news…
Temperatures are not expected to dip below the freezing mark for the next two nights and there is absolutely no snow in the forecast. However, the City of Vancouver feels the need to issue an extreme weather alert. That includes a request for those living on the streets to come inside for their own safety.
A huge haul of guns, drugs, booze and smokes! Four people have been busted by B.C.’s anti-gang unit after cops got a tip about a trafficking network in the Lower Mainland and on Vancouver Island. The massive bust included close to three dozen guns, half a kilo of cocaine, 35 pallets of tobacco and a speedboat. It included properties in Abbotsford, Langley, Surrey and Victoria.
The Mounties are beefing up patrols around Coquitlam Centre after four shootings in the area in recent weeks. The latest included a couple of people inside a car in the parking lot of a Cactus Club, Sunday night. Police think all the shootings were targeted.
Sun Wednesday. Clouds and possible showers on Thursday. And then it’s back to sunshine for Friday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
