Vancouver Rundown Wednesday January 15, 2025
Summary
Christy Clark is out. The former premier now says she will not be seeking the federal Liberal leadership. Clark says she hasn’t been able to learn enough French to connect with voters in Quebec and there’s not enough time to launch a successful campaign. Clark has had a difficult week trying to backtrack her claim that she’s never been a member of the Conservatives. She was. Recently.
Other news…
Green Party Vancouver city councillor Adrianne Carr is calling it quits. She’s making that known in a Wednesday news conference. Carr has expressed frustration working with the ABC majority on council. She’s also hinted at wanting to spend more time with family. Carr is the current council’s longest sitting member.
A small group of students and instructors staged a Tuesday protest outside Vancouver Community College, expressing outrage over a decision to shutter the school’s Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada program. Close to 800 students will have to search for other language options when funding gets pulled at the end of March. Close to 30 instructors had various levels of employment through the program.
One of Vancouver’s most spectacular real estate listings has had a $3M price drop. Penthouse 1, with its sky pool overlooking Coal Harbour, has slid in resale value as the city’s high end condo market continues to dive. The penthouse and its private glass elevator, located at 1568 Alberni Street, was listed for $22M last summer…now it’s a bargain at $18.9M.
Some fog patches but otherwise a mix of sun and cloud for Wednesday. Showers on Thursday. Cloudy on Friday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
