Summary
Sonia Furstenau is stepping down as leader of the BC Greens. The 54-year-old was first elected as an MLA in 2017 and became leader five years ago. But Furstenau failed to win a seat in last fall’s election after choosing to run in the NDP stronghold of Victoria-Beacon Hill. A new leader will be chosen by the party in September.

A cycling advocate who led protests against the Stanley Park bike lane removal will run for Vancouver City council. Lucy Maloney will be a OneCity Vancouver candidate in the April 5 byelection. Two seats are up for grabs following the resignations of Christine Boyle of OneCity and Adriane Carr of the Greens.
A 29-year-old man has been arrested after a Surrey Police cruiser was rammed in a parking lot near 139 Street and 101 Avenue early Friday morning. Police say a driver attempted to get around the cruiser as officers arrived. Steven Thomas Paton is charged with several offences including attempting to flee police and possession of stolen property.
A busy section of Fraser Highway will be closed for seven months, starting in April. The stretch between 140th Street and 96 Avenue will be blocked as crews build the Green Timbers SkyTrain Station. 2025 will continue to see numerous other lane closures along a 16 kilometre stretch of Fraser Highway from King George Station to 203 Street in Langley to allow a new phase of construction of the SkyTrain extention.
