Vancouver Rundown Wednesday July 3, 2024
Summary
There’s no word on possible charges following an ugly physical confrontation on a Burnaby golf course over the weekend. RCMP had to be called after a fight broke out between two groups of golfers at Riverway on Saturday - apparently over course etiquette. Paramedics were called to the scene but no one had to be taken to hospital.
Other news…
You might now be able to spot Surrey Police Service cars on the road. The SPS has now deployed ten of its own vehicles in this latest step in the slow and awkward transition from the RCMP to a city force. The SPS police chief calls it a big morale boost - there is still no comment on how many front-line officers have been hired by the new force.
Grouse Mountain is being blasted by angry tourists who claim there is a lack of communication after Sunday’s breakdown of the Skyride tram. That breakdown left some visitors stuck on the mountain for close to five hours. The resort blames a fault in the operating system. The tram was still not in full operation on Tuesday.
One of the last great hosts of CBC’s Early Edition has passed away. Radio personality Rick Cluff, who had a career spanning more than 40 years at the CBC, many of them covering sports, passed away following a short battle with cancer. He retired in 2017 at a time when his show topped the Vancouver market. Cluff was 74.
A few clouds will remain in the forecast for Wednesday. It will be sunny and warm starting on Thursday with highs over 30 by the weekend. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
