Vancouver Rundown Wednesday May 14, 2025
Summary
Former Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson has been tapped the new federal housing minister. Robertson is one of two dozen rookie MPs appointed to a small federal Cabinet under Prime Minister Mark Carney. The Vancouver Fairview-Burnaby South MP will also oversee Pacific Economic Development Canada. Carney has named five B.C. MPs to new portfolios - the most from this province under a Liberal Prime Minister since Paul Martin.
Other news…
It’s an ‘adult toilet training’ program for all who flush. Metro Vancouver has launched an education campaign to stop people from throwing wipes and other garbage into the toilet. It’s hoped posters placed in public washrooms and elevators might reduce the millions spent each year by the regional district to fix clogged sewers.
Abbotsford Police are warning people about a new credit card scam. The APD has already received several reports of people receiving calls from their credit card company, claiming their card has been compromised. The scammers tell their victims to destroy the card but keep the chip intact. A driver comes by to collect the cut-up card and the chip…then bogus charges are made to the victim’s old card. Police say those getting such calls should immediately call the contact number on the back of the card.
Several Surrey roads will be closed Saturday for the 77th Annual Cloverdale Rodeo Parade. Over a thousand participants and spectators are expected for one the Lower Mainland’s oldest parades. The rodeo takes place over the May long weekend.
A mix of sun, clouds and a few showers on Wednesday. Showers on Thursday. A mix of sun and cloud for Friday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
