Summary
Memo to Canada from India: Please step up all security on Air India flights coming out of Vancouver and Toronto. The strange warning from the Indian government follows unsubstantiated rumors on social media that something untoward could happen on one of the flights on Nov 19. So far, the Canadian government does not appear to be taking any action…at least not publicly. Fewer people have been travelling between Canada and India in recent months.

A young international post secondary student has been sentenced to three years in jail for a crash that killed two UBC students. Tim Goerner, 23, was driving at speeds of up to 140 km/h when his car veered off Marine Drive and hit 18-year-olds Evan Smith and Emily Selwood. Both victims were on a sidewalk when the crash occurred. Goerner was initially charged with impaired driving but pleaded guilty to the lesser charges of dangerous driving.
The B.C. Court of Appeal has upheld a ruling that finds there was nothing wrong with John Horgan’s snap election call in 2020. The top court has tossed out the quest by Democracy Watch to have the election ruled in violation of the province’s Constitution Act. The Court of Appeal has also found that the court system does not have a say over the timing of such an election - that’s in the hands of the Premier and Lieutenant Governor.

Remitly’s survey finds Vancouver tied with Singapore and just behind Amsterdam and Dubai. Vancouver was also a top spot for Albertans looking for an alternative place to live.
