Vancouver Rundown Wednesday November 6, 2024
Summary
Breaking news…
Donald Trump has been elected the next President of the United States. While final results were not confirmed Tuesday night, Trump received enough of the electoral college votes to beat Democrat Kamala Harris. He also won the popular vote. The States will also have a majority in both the Senate and House of Representatives, making any of Trump’s judicial appointments and cabinet confirmations all but certain.
Other news…
The commute home across the Port Mann Bridge turned ugly Tuesday afternoon as a vehicle fire closed down two lanes heading east. The delays stretched all the way from the bridge to Vancouver. Alternatives, including the Pattullo Bridge, provided little relief for those trying to get home to Surrey and other parts south of the Fraser River.
Cannabis stores will soon pop-up in Surrey. The city, which had banned such stores until recently, has given eight companies the green light to open a dozen locations. Until now, those living in Surrey had to go to neighbouring municipalities to buy their cannabis.
Vancouver has approved a new park for the south east side of False Creek. A 1.2 hectare waterfront park will be established next to Olympic Village. The first phase will include a stand of trees for songbirds, an open space for small community events and a recreation area with seating. The park has not yet been named.
Some fog and low cloud, otherwise mostly Sunny on Wednesday. Showers on Thursday. Rain on Friday. Here are the latest stories from our private weather station in Surrey.
