John Horgan has died. The former B.C. NDP Premier turned Canadian Ambassador to Germany has passed away following a third battle with cancer. Horgan was considered one of Canada’s most popular premiers - managing to bridge political divides. Some of his accomplishments included removing tolls on the Port Mann and Golden Ears bridges and eliminating MSP premiums, He died Tuesday at Victoria’s Royal Jubilee Hospital, surrounded by friends and loved ones. John Horgan was 65.

We now know the teen who is being treated at B.C. Children’s Hospital for Canada’s first known case of Avian flu is in critical condition. The teen, who has acute respiratory distress, lives in the Fraser Health region but other details are not being released. Avian flu has been detected at several Fraser Valley poultry farms.
There’s been another fire at North Vancouver’s iconic International Plaza at Marine Drive and Capilano Road. Those living on the 17th and 18th floors of the tower are now out of their homes. There’s no word on injuries. This is the second time in two years a fire has broken out in the tower.
Two stretches of Highway One faced closures due to crashes on Tuesday. Five people were injured in one crash in the west lanes of the freeway near Kensington in Burnaby. An early morning crash on Highway One in Chilliwack closed the freeway in both directions for several hours - there were no serious injuries even though a large transport truck flipped on its side.
