Vancouver Rundown Wednesday November 20, 2024
Summary
Parts of Vancouver Island have been hardest hit by a ‘bomb cyclone’ of high winds and heavy downpours that hit the South Coast Tuesday evening. BC Ferries cancelled many of its sailings, half a dozen highways and roads were closed and more than 200,000 BC Hydro customers were hit by outages. There are remaining concerns about flooding in some areas of the South Coast as heavy rain continues for much of Wednesday.
Other news…
Some people around B.C. should expect extra long delays for Amazon deliveries after a cargo plane went off the runway at YVR early Tuesday morning. It happened at around 1:45 when the Prime Air Boeing 767 over-extended a runway while landing. A problem with the flaps is believed responsible.
A pedestrian has been airlifted to hospital in critical condition after being hit by a car near Gladwin Road and George Ferguson Way in Abbotsford. It happened during the dinner hour on Tuesday. The driver remained at the scene to talk with police.
Trade, housing and high speed rail are on the agenda again as leaders from B.C., Washington and Oregon meet in Portland. This year’s Cascadia Innovation Corridor Conference includes business and government leaders - many whom are discussing President-elect Donald Trump’s anticipated policies. The interests of the tech sector will also be discussed as B.C. and the three states have similar challenges.
Clouds and showers Wednesday…windy with gusts up to 50 km/h in some areas. Cloudy on Thursday. Back to rain on Friday. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
