Summary

Randall Hopley, the 58-year-old perv with a ‘below 70 IQ’ has been taken back into custody following a ten day Canada Wide search. The convicted sex offender was arrested by an officer outside the Downtown Eastside police office where he was apparently trying to turn himself in. On Nov 4., Hopley cut off his electronic monitoring device and decided not to return to his halfway house. He had served a six year prison term for the 2011 abduction of a toddler in Sparwood.

Convicted arsonist James Adrian Dyer will not serve any jail time for burning down a four storey condo in White Rock in 2016. Dyer has been given a conditional sentence of two years less a day for his guilty plea in the massive blaze that caused millions of dollars in damage and displaced dozens of people. The City of White Rock was forced to issue a boil water advisory after fire fighting efforts drained the municipal water supply.

A 14 storey rental tower is poised to be built on a piece of land at the northeast corner of Fraser Street and 17th Ave. Council will have to decide whether to approve the project in a neighbourhood with only low rise commercial and residential buildings. Plans call for 110 rental units. The public hearing stage started Tuesday night.

Top journalists and their supports from throughout the province turned out Tuesday night at Vancouver’s Hyatt Regency to honour the best in reporting at the 2023 Webster Awards. The annual awards ceremony featured former CTV anchor Lisa LaFlamme who stressed, “It is a responsibility for all of us to prioritize news. It is democracy.” LaFlamme also lamented the gutting of local newsrooms as something that’s truly heartbreaking.

While Wednesday will have a few showers, Thursday and Friday should be mostly sunny. Overnight lows will be just above the freezing mark all three days. Here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
