Summary

In the news, don’t expect a simple answer at the Friday morning news conference (9:30 a.m.) as to whether Surrey will continue with the RCMP or transition to a Surrey Police Service. Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth has shied away from making a decision and has paved the way to suggest the province has received plans for both options and now its Surrey’s opportunity to make a choice given the newer, more complete information. That would throw the issue back into Mayor Brenda Locke’s court with her council seemingly aligned to keep the RCMP - as in their vote back in the fall. This would also open up new arguments, fights, protests, court challenges and yes - more expenses.
