In the news, the University of British Columbia just can’t handle its messaging. UBC has now issued a statement saying it deeply regrets its handling of the case of retired judge and former law professor Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond. Late last year, UBC and Turpel-Lafond parted ways after CBC ran a story that questioned the much respected lawyer and advocate’s claims of Cree parentage. The statement comes on the same day Vancouver Island University confirmed it has accepted the return of an honorary doctorate from Turpel-Lafond.
