In the news, the Vancouver Canucks have confirmed that Gino Odjick has died. While the cause of death is widely reported by friends and associates as a heart attack, Odjick had suffered from a rare blood disease for more than a decade.
The well-loved enforcer spent the first eight of his 12 seasons with Vancouver, racking up an all-time record for the most penalty minutes for any Canuck. The team shared the following statement on social media:
Gino was a fan-favourite from the moment he joined the organization, putting his heart and soul into every shift on and off the ice.
He was 52. As of Sunday night, there was no word on plans for a celebration of life.
