Summary
In the news, nothing can ever be peaceful in Surrey politics. Mayor Brenda Locke’s suggested 17.5% property tax increase, to be levied if the Surrey Police Service becomes the force of jurisdiction, has been reject by the finance committee. This followed outrage expressed by a number of angry residents attending a Monday afternoon meeting. City staff has now been advised to keep the budget capped at no more than 12.5% and report back for council consideration on April 6.
