The summary
In the news, any snow around Vancouver and it’s full panic mode. This time - well, it’s a little heavier than most and spans two commute times. For the very latest on problems and closures, check here: 980/CKNW (live radio link on top of the page).
It’s hard to know when the bun fight over the defunct Surrey Police Service will come to an end. The RCMP and municipal police claim to be working in harmony right now during the leftovers of a difficult transition - one that arguably has died with the election of Mayor Brenda Locke. But now, the RCMP are on record as disputing the SPS’s numbers concerning short-staffing. Ouch. There is a Wednesday evening Surrey Police Board meeting ahead and Mayor Brenda Locke is scheduled to chair it. One might expect a little tension. Perhaps any sudden weather cancellation - or a snow job - could be a much appreciated cooling down time.
A tip of the hat to Andrew MacLeod and The Tyee for highlighting an ongoing issue when it comes to a lack of public disclosure - B.C.’s Freedom of Information changes. The NDP Government brought in a fee last year that purportedly would reduce response times by curbing iffy applications. It was a bull shit move. There was a slight drop in FOI requests but the system remains more broken than ever.
There is no snow gauge - but here are the latest conditions from our private weather station in Surrey.
